Breathless patient? Think Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
As people start to gain confidence in engaging with healthcare services again, you can expect to see patients with chronic respiratory conditions who have become deconditioned, and are suffering increased breathlessness, as a result of the long-term isolation and shielding.
We’d like to make you aware that our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team is there for those patients.
In April 2020, we introduced a remote pulmonary rehabilitation programme to support those patients already on our caseload when shielding started, and those continuing to be referred. With no face to face contact, patients have received the following:
We are now in the final stages of planning for a phased return to face to face services but will continue to offer the remote / virtual option alongside this to improve access for patients.
We now also accept referrals for post-covid patients who do not have a diagnosed respiratory disease but who are struggling with ongoing symptoms of breathlessness beyond 12 weeks post-infection.
Across multiple pulmonary rehabilitation services delivered by BOC Healthcare, between 50-80% of patients have chosen to take up the remote pulmonary rehabilitation option. We have found clinically significant improvements on outcome measures are being achieved.
And we are delighted that the patients have valued the programme as well:
“I was really satisfied with the way it was conducted as it has really improved my breathing. Claire the lady who did the programme was so helpful. I looked forward every week to speak to her.’’
‘’I have benefitted greatly’’
‘’Very informative and helpful’’
